An organization of more than 100 lesbian and gay artists from the Washington-Baltimore area and includes a wide spectrum of visual, literary, and performance artists.
Our performances include community events, women's cultural activities, lesbian and gay pride celebrations, political gatherings, and other opportunities to facilitate understanding, acceptance, and cooperation among people of diverse lifestyles through the medium of music. Our music is women-oriented, much of it written or arranged by women and some of it original within the group. Our repertoire includes political songs, popular and folk songs, satires, love songs, and madrigals.
We are the oldest lesbian, gay, and bisexual water polo team in the United States, founded in 1985.
The mission of the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, D.C. is to develop a musical legacy, to affirm the role of the gay community in the life of the nation andhumanity, to educate others about the gay experience, and to inspire through music. It seeks to achieve these goals by commissioning new music, participating in the international gay and lesbian choral movement, maintaining financial stability, and performing community outreach.
The LGCW is a non-auditioned chorus, recognized as a proud and outstanding musical and educational resource for both its members and the community, consistently acclaimed for its quality and image.
