SMYAL is a youth service agency serving the Washington, DC metro area, including Maryland and Northern Virginia. It is our mission to support and enhance the self esteem of sexual minority youth-any youth (13-21) who is lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or who may be questioning their sexuality-and to increase public awareness and understanding of their issues.

We, the parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered persons, celebrate diversity and envision a society that embraces everyone, including those of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Only with respect, dignity and equality for all will we reach our full potential as human beings, individually and collectively.
