2. Anna Rüling
Anna Rueling is the first known Lesbian activist. This site offers a review of a speech she gave over 100 years ago (1904), and offers links to her speech in English and Italian, In her speech, Rüling brought Gay rights and women's rights under one umbrella. She congratulated the Committee for its support of women's rights and for including Lesbians in its fight for equal right.
Buried in joint tomb in Saqqara provided by Pharaoh Niusere, wall paintings depict them in intimate embrace, describe them as "Joined in life and joined in death." It was revealed that this unique tomb had been built for two men to cohabit and that both shared identical titles in the palace of King Niuserre of the Fifth Dynasty: "Overseer of the manicurist in the palace of the king."
